MALDIVES ISLANDS - CENTRAL ATOLLS BOAT TRIP

Overview

This trip has been conceived mostly for our friends, passionate and crazy for waves and surf. For us continental people, this trip is a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience something uniquely different: spending 10 days on a boat, floating on top of the waves, surrounded by the heavenly Maldives Islands. We strongly recommend a certain degree of surfing experience before taking this trip, even though a professional level is not required. On your ¨lodge-boat¨ you'll be accompanied not only by a local crew (the captain and his crew) but also by a western surf guide, who will also be your translator. You'll be able to surf the most perfect waves on a daily basis (in fact, the local crew knows the place by heart and will take you where the swell is at its best, depending on the weather conditions). You'll also have the chance to snorkel and fish practically sitting in your cabin!

Terrain

Our fleet will allow you to discover this tropical jewel of the Indian ocean. Boats are the best possible option in this archipelago allowing you to maximize your surfing time. Surfing perfect waves in the Maldives' turquoise waters is an experience you'll never forget.

The best period for surfing in the Maldives corresponds to winter in the Southern Hemisphere, namely from March until October. During this period, the roaring forties cause storms bringing the largest swells in the archipelago. The biggest waves are likely to occur in June, July and August. During this period, the wind is mainly offshore all day long . This paradise is exposed to the same swells as Indonesia except that its higher latitude and its south-east exposure offers cooler and less hardcore surfing. The Maldives' typical wave rolls up more like a Point Break than a rectilinear wall. A small tube arises sometimes, prompting manoeuvres especially that its size oscillates between 3 and 6 feet. Everyone will find his satisfaction. The reef is far from being aggressive, for it is dead and much flatter than its Indonesian cousin. It is rare to touch the bottom unless you surf it by very strong low tide coefficient.

Agenda / Itinerary

Day 1, Sunday
Welcome to paradise! Our team will meet you at the Airport and take you directly to our boat: The FLYING FISH. After settling in to your cabin, you'll have time to dive in to the ocean and enjoy the beauty of this corner of the earth. After swimming in warm turquoise water or perhaps riding your first wave or tube, you can just lie back on the deck and enjoy a local beer, gazing at your first tropical sunset. And after the sun goes down, it'll be time to enjoy a delicious dinner with fresh fish, caught only a couple of hours before laying out the table!

Day 2 - 8
The adventure begins!!! You start your day by waking up directly a few meters away from the line up. After the first morning session, a huge breakfast will be served by the crew. Later, the outdoor chill out in the shade is the perfect spot for checking out how the surf is going or taking pictures of your buddies in the barrel. During the day, if surfed out, you'll always have the opportunity to explore the surrounding islands, go snorkelling with the local manta rays or try catching a big fish for your dinner. Don't worry, if you don't hook anything, the cook will always have a local recipe to offer you. After your last session at sunset, cold beers and music will help you recover from your daily emotions. Be ready for tomorrow.

Day 10
If you get up early, you'll still have one last chance to catch a couple of waves, before returning to firm land and taking your flight back home. After an experience like this, we don't think you'll be going back home quite the same...
